THE SPACE AGE
The beginning of space age was from march 16,1926, for this was the
first rocket launched by ROBERT. H .GODDARD (1882-1945), the AMERICAN
scientist who designed the first liquid fuel rocket. This rocket shot
into the air at 60 miles an hour, climbed to a height of 184 feet &
promptly fell back to ground.
The voyage of space beyond the EARTH has been one of the man's dream
for a long time.
Long before the invention of the telescope & other instruments by
astronomers. Man observed the movements of these heavenly bodies. The
SUN, the MOON & the STARS rising in the east & setting in the
west each were of interest to even the most primitive societies of man.
It was the Greeks, how ever, who first attempted to fit these observations
into a logical explanation of the appearance & movements of the
heavenly bodies.these was the beginning of THE SCEINCE OF ASTRONOMY.
Among the early astronomers was EUDOXUS (409-355 BC),who developed an
explanation of the SOLAR SYSTEM on which events like eclipse could be
predicted. Contribution of other early astronomers led to development
by the Greek scientist, Claudius Ptolemy
(KLAW-DEE-UHS TAHL-UH-MEE) 2nd century, which was accepted by scientist
as correct for over a thousands of yrs.
